Good question. The full length recoil spring guide serves two essential purposes. Primarily, it it insures that the recoil spring doesn’t kink under recoil & slide retraction. It gives the spring a solid path when it retracts. Purely a reliability issue.
Secondly, with the firm platform of travel, reverse plug, and the additional, yet negligible weight, accuracy is improved.
and muzzle jump is minimized.
